Prospect Watch: El Paso fell behind early and lost in a rain-shortened game at home. … First baseman Nate Mondou had a pair of hits, including a double. Mondou has 18 doubles which is tied for the eighth-most in the 10-team circuit. Overall, the former A’s infielder has produced a solid .839 OPS, an above-average mark in the hitter-friendly PCL. … Graham Pauley started at second base and reached base twice, notching a single and a walk. After starting his PCL career with a torrid stretch when he was first sent down, the 23-year-old has had a rough go since his second stint with the Padres and struggled mightily in June. In 23 contests, the former Duke infielder managed a paltry .464 OPS in June. In May, Pauley walked 19 times while punching out 18 times. In June, he drew just three walks while striking out 23 times and had just seven extra-base hits in 97 trips to the plate. … Lefty Jackson Wolf turned in one of his best outings in a while but it wasn’t enough to earn the win. Wolf pitched five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out four. It was the first time he lasted five innings since June 2. The 25-year-old had a 9.90 ERA in five June starts. He will need to pitch more consistently in order to establish himself as a realistic depth option, even with the built-in advantage of being on the 40-man roster.

Prospect Watch: The Missions scored three in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to cruise to their third straight win. … Earlier on Tuesday, lefty Robby Snelling was awarded a spot on the National League roster for the All-Star Futures Game, despite a rough first half of the season. Snelling started the day with a 6.49 ERA and had given up 14 runs over seven innings in his last two starts while striking out only two. However, Snelling looked sharp against the league’s worst offense on Tuesday. The 20-year-old pitched five innings and allowed just one run on five hits. He walked two and matched his season high by striking out seven. The left-hander hasn’t shown the same velocity as last year, but he’s a tireless worker and someone who has shown the ability to make adjustments. He will look to build on Tuesday’s result with one more strong outing next time out before heading to Arlington. … Left fielder Cole Cummings singled, doubled, drew a walk, and had a pair of RBIs. Cummings now has 20 doubles on the season, good for second in the Texas League. The 26-year-old has been a steady contributor with a .741 OPS this year. … Robbie Tenerowicz only had one hit but it was a big one. The 29-year-old free agent signee connected on his ninth homer of the season – a three-run shot that put the Missions ahead for good. The former Cal Bear hit five homers in June, on his way to a solid slash-line of.265/.367/.458. He has provided a solid power threat for a lineup that has struggled to score runs this season. … Juan Zabala has been a seldom-used backup this season but he started at designated hitter on Tuesday and had three hits and a stolen base. The 25-year-old has only played in 32 games despite being on the active roster all season. He has a .559 OPS on the year.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps scored two in the first to notch a wire-to-wire win in Lansing. … At the plate, Anthony Vilar had four hits, coming a triple short of the cycle. He had two singles, and a double, and launched his fifth homer of the season. With top prospect Ethan Salas entrenched behind the dish, Vilar has been a Swiss army knife for the TinCaps, bouncing around the infield while playing well offensively. Tuesday’s big night raised his season OPS to .766. … Speaking of Salas, the 18-year-old had two hits, including a double. Defensively, he had a pair of passed balls and had two errors due to catcher inference. The two-hit night halted an 0-for-22 stretch for the top prospect, who like Snelling, was named to the MLB All-Star Futures roster on Tuesday. Salas has shown flashes of potential but he’s managed a poor .574 OPS this season. … Jay Beshears connected on his second homer in 41 games since joining the TinCaps. The 22-year-old, who continues to start most games at shortstop, has hit in eight of his last nine games. While he’s only hit .250 in that stretch, he’s slugging a more robust .469. … Coming off his first two rough outings of the year, Enmanuel Pinales bounced back in a big way to earn the victory. The righty pitched six shutout innings, allowing just two hits, walking two, and striking out five. The 23-year-old was coming off his worst start of the season, when he allowed six runs in 3.1 innings on June 25. The six solid innings lowered his season ERA to 3.55, which is tied for eighth among just 19 pitchers who have thrown enough innings to qualify for the Midwest League leader boards.

Inland Empire 66ers 10, Storm 8

Key Statistics: C Luis Campusano, 1-for-3, R, HR (1), 3 RBI, BB; LF Jacob Campbell, 3-for-5, R, 2B; DH Braedon Karpathios, 3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI; LHP Luis Gutierrez, 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, BB, 4 K; LHP Javier Chacon (L, 3-1) 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

Prospect Watch: Things got a little wild in Lake Elsinore Tuesday night but the 66ers scored the final four runs of the game to get past the Storm at The Diamond. … Luis Campusano made his second rehab appearance, getting the start behind the plate. He launched a homer to left that he hit while down on one knee. The big leaguer will get one more start for the Storm on Wednesday before possibly being activated. … Campusano’s presence pushed part-time backstop Jacob Campbell to left field. The former Illinois star had three more hits to push his line in 36 games to .261/.374/.464. The 24-year-old hit six homers in June, slugging .573 in the process. With the promotion of Romeo Sanabria and Nick Vogt to Fort Wayne,Campbell has been charged with replacing their run production in the middle of the lineup. … Braedon Karpathios had three hits, including a double. He also drove in a pair of runs. The 21-year-old struggled mightily in June but he has four multi-hit games in his last eight appearances and he’s doubled in each of his last two games. Overall, he has a solid .362 on-base percentage this season as he continues to be one of the most patient hitters on the circuit. … After pitching well last time out, lefty Luis Gutierrez struggled on Wednesday. The southpaw allowed six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings. He walked one and struck out four. Gutierrez had not allowed a run in his previous two outings, spanning 11 innings, but the rough outing raised his ERA to 5.60 this season.

Prospect Watch: It was a long night in the desert as the ACL squad allowed 11 runs in the first three innings and were ultimately blown out in Surprise. … B.Y. Choi had two more hits, as the young infielder continues to hit in the desert. Choi singled, doubled, drew a walk, and had RBI in the loss. The 22-year-old has had some contact issues at times but he’s put up a solid .846 OPS. With the draft approaching and the ACL season winding down at the end of the month, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the former New Mexico Military Institute shortstop get an opportunity in Lake Elsinore in August. … Colton Vincent doubled and singled three times as part the first four-hit night of his professional career. The former Florida State catcher has seen time in Lake Elsinore and Fort Wayne this year but the majority of his playing time has come in the desert. His career-best night raised his ACL average to .329 this season. … Daniel Camarena was sent to the desert after a poor stint with El Paso and he struggled in the ACL on Tuesday. The former big leaguer allowed three runs on four hits in his first inning of work in nearly three weeks. Camarena pitched to a 9.74 ERA in 14 games for the Chihuahuas. He was not placed on the injured list, so he’s in Arizona to figure some things out as he looks to get back to the upper minors soon. … Rehabbing lefty Mitch Miller made an appearance and also struggled. The 27-year-old recorded just two outs and allowed five runs on three hits, with a walk and two strikeouts. Thanks to an error, all of the runs were unearned. Miller signed with the Padres as a free agent in the off-season and has spent this year in Fort Wayne.
